Ward 14 is beaming with pride as we celebrate one of our own, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, on being named the NBA MVP for the 2024–25 season! Shai led the league in scoring with an impressive 32.7 points per game, showcasing not only his incredible talent but also his dedication and leadership on and off the court. A proud former resident of Ward 14, Shai’s journey began at Regina Mundi Catholic Elementary School Elementary School, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued through St. Thomas More, and culminated with his graduation from Sir Allan MacNab High School. He then went on to play one standout season with the Kentucky Wildcats before being drafted 11th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets, and traded that night to the Los Angeles Clippers. He is now a three-time NBA All-Star and two-time All-NBA First Team member. I had the pleasure of meeting Shai a few years ago at Peoples Church Hamilton. His kindness, and genuine nature left a lasting impression—he’s not just a world-class athlete, but a truly grounded individual. On behalf of Ward 14, congratulations Shai!
