Mike Spadafora spoke on Newstalk1010 this week about the significant challenges Hamilton residents are facing in the wake of the City’s cyber attack. He reiterated that the City made the difficult decision not to pay the ransom, calling it “the wrong approach,” and instead focused on rebuilding systems securely.

Spadafora explained that while the City had cyber insurance, the insurer found a way to deny the claim by pointing to fine print and technicalities, leaving the City responsible for the costs.

To strengthen Hamilton’s digital infrastructure, the City is investing into IT upgrades. Spadafora stressed that he and his colleagues are working closely with industry experts to ensure these expenditures are done the right way.
