Councillor Mike Spadafora voiced strong concerns over the lack of transparency and communication around Hamilton’s mini-cabin shelter project, which ballooned to nearly $8 million—far surpassing its original $2.8-million budget. While recognizing the urgency behind the initiative, Spadafora criticized the process, saying council should have been made aware of major cost and scope changes sooner. “Sometimes, you’ve just got to come back and say, ‘You guys are wrong. This isn’t going to work. Find a better plan,’” he stated, emphasizing the need for better oversight and accountability moving forward.
