Hamilton, Ontario — October 8, 2025

Hamilton City Councillor Mike Spadafora has been elected by his City Council colleagues to serve as a voting member on the Hamilton Police Services Board (HPSB). He fills the seat previously held by Mayor Andrea Horwath, who announced her resignation from the Board last month due to scheduling conflicts. The motion confirming her resignation and Spadafora’s appointment passed unanimously at today’s Council meeting.

As the newly elected representative, Councillor Spadafora emphasized both his support for the Hamilton Police Service and his commitment to fiscal accountability.

“I am a supporter of the Hamilton Police Service. They are important to keep our residents and communities safe,” said Spadafora. “In saying that, the public has seen my commitment to raising questions when it comes to budgets, and I will have a similar approach at the HPSB. I will always look out for the best interest of residents from both a safety standpoint and a finance standpoint.”

The Hamilton Police Services Board oversees governance and accountability for the Hamilton Police Service, ensuring that local policing priorities align with community needs and fiscal responsibility.

Councillor Spadafora’s first meeting as a voting member will take place on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
